Many breastfeeding relationships develop spontaneously and mother and baby grow into the experience, supported by the father and other people who are near to them. These families appreciate the primary care of the midwife, encouraging words, sharing in breastfeeding groups, a book on breastfeeding and information on breastfeeding in everyday life.
Others experience challenges at the beginning of breastfeeding or later. Or the overall situation is difficult because of a premature birth or another challenge. Or you simply want support for your situation. For these families, I offer lactation consultation especially for your particular situation.

In more than 25 years experience in breastfeeding counseling, my confidence has grown strong that mother and babies will find their own way in breastfeeding. You and your baby are welcome just as you are and my offer is to cooperate with you, support you with my experience, my background and my assessment while you, as a family, will discover what you want to try or also not to try - both are valid choices.
Very important is attentive contact with your baby. I also want to support you if a memory about the birth or your breastfeeding experiences so far comes up. My hope is that the time with your baby will become more and more relaxed, your relationship with the baby and in the family will grow during the time of breastfeeding and that the breastfeeding experience - as it is - will become part of your life.
I especially appreciate the presence of the father or another person who is near to you during the lactation consultation.
It’s best to have in-person assistance, but, in case of great distances or special circumstances, a lactation consultation also works well by phone and video call, possibly also together with the father or another person who is near to you.
Situations when a lactation consultation can be helpful
My service is individual counseling for breastfeeding and also for special situation, for example:
preparation for breastfeeding during pregnancy
questions about breastfeeding in everyday life, solids, sleeping, weaning
sore nipples, pain, plugged ducts, mastitis, serious illnesses
babies after premature birth
babies with an oral cleft
babies with a congenital heart disease or other congenital issues
worries because of weight gain
worries because of milk supply
questions about tongue-tie
breastfeeding in an adoptive family
transitioning from bottle to breast - after an interruption of breastfeeding or for a baby who never latched
What to expect at a lactation consultation
Breastfeeding counseling is usually a process:
First contact by phone - your intention, important initial information on the actual situation, information about a lactation consultation
Lactation consultation in the practice - usually in my practice in Rosenheim, preferably with both parents and the baby, clarifying the intentions of mother and father, detailed consultation
Lactation consultation by phone or video call - possible in case of great distances; photos and videos are helpful for assessment
Summary after the consultation - for the parents, assessment of weight, photos and videos sometimes require up to an hour work time
Follow-up contacts by phone, email or personal consultations

How long does a personal lactation consultation take?
The first personal consultation usually takes at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Consultations by phone or skype are according to need. The number of consultations depends on the initial situation.
What are the costs of a lactation consultation?
I charge for the time I work for you including personal consultations, phone and video call consultations, assessment of documents, photos and videos and writing a summary with 60€ per hour.
Are the costs reimbursed by health insurance?
Usually, this is not the case in Germany. AOK Hessen offers the possibility of some reinbursement within the project Schwangerschaftspaket. In other countries you need to check the local regulations.
In which languages is a lactation consultation possible?
The consultation is possible in German, English, Hungarian and Italian.
